Daily, I analyze medical records of people who are alleging depression and anxiety. It is sad, but that there are so many people struggling with these conditions, and you wouldn’t even realize it. I read some of their stories and it breaks my heart what some them go through. For most—not all—there is a trend. The number one thing I’ve gathered that worries people is their finances. While people are affected by their past, many people worry about their futures. I have observed that we fear things that are to come, especially when our present looks bleak. Older folks would always say to treat people with decency and respect, because you never know what people are going through. It is easy to think that you are alone, but there are others experiencing the same limitation on growth: They focus more on the idea than the process.
I am no psychologist by any means, but based on my experiences we all too often take our present experiences and use that as a vision of our future. For example, I heard someone say in a sulking manner, “I am broke now; I will never be able to get anything.” We begin phrasing things as such we simultaneously experience sadness and angst. It arises within us creating the feeling of being stuck. The negativity that we feel overshadow the possibilities that we can create in our lives.
People worry about how they will keep their homes, feed their families. We worry about how we will make more money, take off in our career to make more money. When they see no way out in their near future, how they can move forward? They literally do become stuck, irritable, anxious or sad. All because of an idea that arose from within.
I believe that ideas affect us more than actual events. We daydream and lust about the luxuries of life and fall in love with the idea of having it. But we could care less about the actual events that build up to that phenomenal moment, and 9 times out of 10 our daydreams do not include the process. Too many people fail along the way when they simply because the process is too daunting and they are not prepared to allow their idea to morph. You only see yourself cursing in the Maserati with your hair in the wind, pulling into the driveway of your $10,000,000 mansion. A Benz with at $400,000 home will not do….lol. When we create an idea, and it does not pan out like we expect, we become saddened or even angered. These repeated instances create overall feeling of negativity which in turn affect every other area of our lives indirectly.
It is awesome to have goals. In fact that is part of our DNA. We were created to be Creators, not destructors in our own life. So when those ideas begin to cause sadness and self-degradation, it’s time to step aside and analyze the limiting beliefs. When they arise, don’t linger on the thought and subsequent emotions about what you need to do to get here or there, just begin doing it. The longer you dwell on what was meant to be a fleeting thought, the quicker procrastination will set in and you will start talking yourself out of it. Be careful what you think about and linger on, you just might start to believe it. Allow the ideas to morph along the journey. Understand that it might look different when you get there, but you will recognize it when it arrives.
