There comes a point in our life when unexpected events prompt a sudden need for change. These surprises that life offers us take the form of break-ups, disease, job loss, death or even major life decisions. Do you remain stuck grieving events in your past? Perhaps you’ve run up against redundancies of life. Maybe relationships and friendships have become stagnate. It could even be possible that negativity continuously arises when as you participate in various activities.
These transitions create a surge of emotional demands that can either make or break you. However, that is not the message that one should receive. Looking at it in deeper way reveals a more holistic purpose. These experiences help us move past self-imposed limitations to accept and welcome new possibilities. Once the transition is realized, it is the moment where you experience growth.
In our Book of Life, each period of realized change corresponds to the transition between each chapter. However, there is one caveat. In order for a new chapter to begin, it is up to us to turn the page. We must learn to turn the page before it’s too late. Here is some ways I have found useful to successfully close any chapter in your life.:
- Recognize when you are concluding a chapter. As I mentioned earlier, it is those moments you begin to feel a need for something new. You feel stuck. You need a new thrill. You long for deeper meaning of life. You have to realize this once it begins so you can monitor your lifestyle. Monitoring your lifestyle will reveals whether your stagnation is simply a momentary occurrence or the conclusion of a chapter.
- Take full responsibility. Passing blame never creates closure. No one holds you back but yourself. It is your decision to move forward or bask in a state of heightened emotions. Not moving equals no change.
- Make the decision toward action. Allow yourself to grieve, but decide on the things that you can let go. When you release things you are exercising your personal power. Taping into your Will provides the energy and determination to take the next step.
- Identify and create new habits. Understand that bad habits prevent you from moving beyond your limitations. We create habits based on our past experiences. Our behaviors affect our present lives and the future. Creating new positive habits will push you beyond your present emotions state.
- Realize time heals all wounds. Once you recognize your need for change and make a conscious effort to start new, results will not occur immediately. Just like when you are reading chapter, you go into the next chapter with the memories and thoughts of the prior chapter. But you keep progressing and you create new emotions and memories.
There are times in our life where you must turn the page to a new and bright future. By consciously making the decision to move forward, you are providing permission to let go of the past. You uphold the integrity of the transition. It will not be easy, but as you form new goals, habit, and experiences, the pain you felt in a prior chapter with diminish. You are a creator. Begin today, the process of defining and creating your story!
