Pericles, an influential and important leader of Athens during the Athenian Golden Age said, “Time is the wisest counselor of all.” Perhaps you are at a point in your life where you realize that time is fleeting and you must spend your time more efficiently, not wasting it on frivolous things or things that hold us back.
We’re always looking for ways to get more important things done in less time. Today I want to share with you 3 simple tips you can implement right away to get you to be more efficient.
1. Get More Sleep
“Even a soul submerged in sleep is hard at work and helps make something of the world.”-Heraclitus
The first thing I want you to try out is to sleep more. While this might sound counterintuitive, it is extremely effective. You will feel more energized! You do not want to walk around sluggish and grumpy! That makes you less productive. And you do not want that do you?
Of course Not! So I encourage you to get more sleep. Try to resolve to going to bed an hour earlier. The recommended time is 8 hours, however everyone is different. Just make sure you sleep enough to feel refreshed. You might have to experiment some nights until you find what works for you.
2. Plan The Night Before
“You must not procrastinate; rather you should make preparations so that even if you die tonight, you would have no regrets.” – Dali Lama
Before you go to bed each night, take about 30 minutes to plan your day for tomorrow. Select the clothes that you will wear tomorrow, iron them and hang them up. If you have left over dinner, place that in a container for lunch. Lastly, write down three things that are priorities.
By doing this, you will not wake up in a panic trying to figure out what to wear, what to eat for lunch. You can wake up with clarity and get started on your priority tasks.
3. Prioritize Your Priorities
“Never leave till tomorrow that which you can do today.” – Benjamin Franklin
Now, as usual, we will end up procrastinating on one of those three priorities. If there is one you have been putting off, for some time or you know you will put it off, make that your number One priority. Because you have prepared for the next day, you can get started on your task! Commit to working on it at least 30 minutes before you take a break. Do not check your emails, Facebook or Twitter accounts, get straight too it! Once you have gotten the hardest thing out of the way, you feel great. You feel accomplished. You feel like nothing else can stop you and that’s a great place to be!
So there you have it – 3 quick tips to make you insanely efficient. Don’t let the simplicity of these fool you. Implement them today and let me know what you got out of it.
