I constantly see articles about traits of highly effective millionaires, but rarely do I see article addressing the actual habits of the very people that need the help. It is easy to dangle the carrot in front of the rabbit. But it is much harder to teach the rabbit the tools to dig it up.
Of course it is easy to tell what the successful people did to become that way, but the reader cannot truly relate and implement because those are not habits to which they are accustomed. I think it does a disservice to many people. We must expressly identify the habits that keep people stuck in a rut. The habits must be identified. Sometimes we have bad habits and do not even realize they are negatively affecting us.
If you are broke and struggling reading this, this is your opportunity to identify just a few highly destructive habits.
I love this quote:
Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.- Luke 16:10 NIV
So, I am going to start by identifying some small things that people have trouble mastering and of which the negative outcomes has dominion over their life.
- Poor Accountability. Broke people are not always accountable to their actions and have a tendency to blame others rather than learning about what was done so it can be done right the next time. ‘See what had happened was….’
- Set Comfortable Goals. Broke people do not set high goals. Most set a goal of just ‘making it through the day’ . You have to set the bar high. Set specific goals and have a definitive to-do list everyday.
- Low Financial Literacy. They do not know or monitor their FICO score or analyze their budgets. They constantly making new purchases on loan. They put off paying bills until the last minute–even when they have the money…..end up getting late fees having to pay more and keeping them in the cycle.
- Hate reading Nonfiction. The ones who do read, prefer fiction to escape from reality. To make money in this world you need to do one of two things: 1) learn a skill that pays well or 2) create a business that you can scale whether. Broke people stay broke because they are not committed to constantly learning new things. Not only learning new skills, but self improvement is essential as well. With, books, seminar, and YouTube, we have a lifetime of knowledge at our finger tips.
- Stay in A Bubble. Broke people do not network. We are more concerned about what Cookie is going to do on empire. We have to get outside of our comfort zone.
- Status Disconnect. Broke people want to be rich, but hate, despise, or distrust rich or well-off people. There is a mental disconnect that is keeping you where you are. Forget taking real steps to “be like them”. If you believe that they are show offs and are shunned by your peers, you are less likely to take the risk.
- Give up Easily. They are not as resilient. I’m not talking about the the person working 3 jobs to make ends meet for years on end. That is super resilience. You have to do, what you have to do! But I refer to those who try something new, it failed, and they use the ‘it wasn’t meant to be’ spill. It is hard for them to bounce back. Know that things will not always work out, but you will need to start over and attack the problem from a different angle.
- Poor Health Habits. They are not health conscious. They do not exercise or eat right. To have the energy to power through our goals, it is essential to do these things to get things done.
- Suckers for Instant Gratification. They focus on immediate needs versus long term gains. You have to be in it to win, no matter how long it takes.
- Educated In Brokeconomics. 90% of people currently broke were taught and conditioned to be poor. However, I want this to hit home in your mind this quote that I coined.
“It is not your fault what happened in the past, but it is everyone’s responsibility to make tomorrow a better place. Not only for yourself but others around you. “
Please do not take this as some attack on less fortunate people. I know I did not use a lovey dovey title, but as I stated on the onset, we must identify things that hold back very capable individuals, and sometimes those things are not pretty. I hope you take these words and let me know what are some of the things that you need to work on? Leave me a comment below!
