Success. We all want it. Some audition for it. Other’s do whatever it takes to make it happen. But what is this success that people are after. We know that success is subjective. One person may think that success is killing it as an entrepreneur at 25, purchasing a multi million dollar mansion and a lamborghini by 30. Another person simply wants a work-life balance to devote more time to family. There is no one way to “be” successful. But everyone who has made the decision to go after the vision has all encountered one common moment of truth. There is a moment a clarity that sparks what they need to take themselves to the next level.
So what is this secret that they have tapped into. This moment of clarity that feels like the flood gates of energy have been opened. It is a concepts where one begins to focus on intense periods of work that that will quickly continue to move them toward the end result. This secret they have tapped into is what’s known as a sense of urgency. According to the Book of Tron, business leaders have what I call the “7th Sense”. In its simplest form it is the bias towards ACTION.
If you look at top entrepreneurs, you will notice that they seem to move at a quicker pace–mentally and physically–than the people they lead. They make decision (executive decisions) quickly. They have a metaphysical relationship with time which they understand that ACTION almost warps time.
They also have the ability to positively motivate people toward specific actions in order to achieve specific organizational goals. Their sense of urgency becomes evident as they transfer their energy into the project or into the people they lead so they stay focused on the mission. This in turn brings the vision to fruition.
So, How Can You Tap In to this “7th Sense”
To borrow a phrase from Tony Robbins, you have to take “Massive Action”. As entrepreneurs and business leaders, you want to get it done as soon as possible, so you can pivot quickly and implement a new strategy quickly. You do not not want to rest on your laurels. You want to think about the quickest method that will achieve the most favorable results. Speed of implementation. The more you procrastinate, the more likely that you will NOT achieve your result. You will be more in tune with the anxiety of failure and you will not make any effort to keep trying new things. You must have passion for what you are doing over all. You have to exhibit a genuine sense of enthusiasm. This energy is contagious. When you are able to raise your energy levels, you become more productive. If you are a leader, you raise the energy levels of people in the room which in turn inspires them towards action. So get started trying new things, implement quickly, and enjoy the fruits of your labor and repeat.
What are the Downfalls to All of This?
While you are moving and implementing, burnout is possible. Entrepreneurs become susceptible to decision fatigue as well as physical fatigue. Here are two ways to guard you self against burnout.
Take care of your mental well being by practicing mindfulness and visualization. When you practice visualization, you are seeing within your mind, just how the actions you are taking are positively moving you forward. When you can step outside of the details and look at the big picture, you will be more enthusiastic and create more positive energy to keep going. When you practice mindfulness, you do not become stuck in mindless obstacles. You simple realize that it is an obstacle that you are facing, you prioritize, and you KEEP MOVING forward. Some people will actually whine and complain for days and months about why they cannot do something. Next thing you know they are 40 years old regretting not doing anything.
You also have to take care of your health. The key takeaway here is to be active. As someone who deals with anxiety, I realized that if I have something BIG coming up, the longer I sit, the more anxious I become. However, when I get up and move around, I can actually take my mind off of the upcoming feat and tackle it bit by bit until I no longer feel anxious. Exercise helps to generate new energy and releases endorphins that will actually make you more excited about the work that needs to be done. I can definitely attest that it helps me, so I recommend that you try exercising before any thing huge. You’ll be surprise at how well you do.
Three Ingredients to Igniting the Flame.
The first impetus to a developing a sense of urgency is a strongly communicated vision. You have to have a clearly defined vision. Not knowing what you are going after will slow you down. Next you have to have excitement to accomplish the goal. How many time have you been bored to death and feel like giving up? Many of the things you finished were due to the fact that you found some level of satisfaction from them. Finally as one moves along, successful people fall in love with the process. When you fall in love with the process, you want test and achieve the small rewards. So, get started. Write out that vision. Make it plain, and run with it!
